Don’t Forget to Vote

November 4, 2008 in Politics by export

Yes We Can

Today is a very important day.  If you believe you have any value at all, this is the day to exercise it.  Go to the polls and let your voice be heard.  In a Democracy there are no leaders, there is only the people.  Stand up and be heard.

Tim Russert Remembered

June 13, 2008 in Personal, Politics by export

Gone too soon. It is hard to believe that Tim Russert has died at the young age of 58.

As a political junky, Tim has been a big part of my life for such a long time. While I didn’t always agree with him, he always found a way to make politics interesting and informative.

In many ways, this feels like a loss in the family. His voice dominated coverage of Washington. I cannot imagine what the campaign is going to look like without him. His insights, charm and wit will be sorely missed.

May he sit with the angels. I can only imagine the questions he is asking God right now. I will miss you Tim. We all will.

What did Chamberlain do?

May 17, 2008 in Politics by export

If you are going to try to make a point you should know what you are talking about. It is amazing to see Chris Matthews actually playing Hardball.

I am tired of people invoking history that they are ignorant of. I really do believe that if we do not learn from history we are doomed to repeat it. I hope that we see more media-types require their guests to actually know what they are talking about. Maybe facts and history will make a comeback.

If you want the full answer, a quick Google search will yield the BBC page about Mr Chamberlain [here].

Randi goes to Nova M Radio!

April 11, 2008 in Politics by export

randi_rhodesThe Goddess of Radio has left Air America Radio:

The Nova M Radio Network is thrilled to announce the addition of “The Randi Rhodes Show” Randi Rhodes is the #1 rated progressive talk radio host in the nation.

Nova M CEO John Manzo says, “I just can’t stop smiling – Randi is simply the biggest and the best. Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy under one roof – talk about TALENT!”

Randi Rhodes adds, “With Manzo at helm of Nova M, I am truly going to work for the best of the best. He is radio elite…and I am too <laughs>. I’m home, I’m home, I’m home!”

“The Randi Rhodes Show” will air live Mon-Fri from 3-6pm Eastern on The Nova M Radio Network.

Air America for its part has announced a filler show with celebrity co-hosts (link).

This is bad news for Air America. The highest rated show on their network has left because the management has little grasp of how to treat their talent. The fired Mike Malloy and Kent Jones, they lost Randi Rhodes and Al Franken, the only strong talent they have left is Rachel Maddow and David Bender.

This could be good news for progressive radio, spreading the talent across more stations.

I hope they will stream and podcast the Randi Rhodes Show so I and still listen.

Lie or Negligence?

April 2, 2008 in Politics by export

These words from the Attorney General are the most shocking words I have ever heard. Is he lying for political gain or did he just admit that the government could have stopped 9/11 if they would have done their job under the the law as it existed… Either way, it is a terrible thing to hear from the powers that be.

Olbermann on Clinton and Race

March 14, 2008 in Culture, Politics by export

In my shock and disbelief about the Geraldine Ferraro remarks about race, I could not find the words to express my outrage. I have not found my voice on issues of race and I did not want it to become a pro-Obama tirade. Thankfully, Keith Olbermann found the words that I could not.

Ellen DeGeneres v Sally Kern

March 14, 2008 in Funny, GLBT, Politics by export

Ellen has found a way to not only turn lemons into lemonade, if I may use that cliche. How? By playing Sally Kern’s homophobic/sexist words on her show, and then trying to call her.

The audience reaction is very encouraging. They laugh and shake their heads in disgust at the horribly homophobic/sexist tirade of of Sally Kern we talked about before.I am glad to see Ellen waking up and bringing these issues before a mainstream audience, and showing how completely out of step with the average person Kern’s hate speech really is. Cheers Ellen! Now, we have to continue to make this sort of speech politically unacceptable.

Hate Speech is Dangerous

March 12, 2008 in GLBT, Politics by export

Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern did not have had sex with a prostitute, she did something much much worse. She gave a hate-filled fearmongering speech that reminds me of a 1930’s film called “Rats.” It is chilling to hear this:

Hate is never ok. This sort of fearmongering hate speech is unacceptable for anyone, much less an elected official.I do not doubt that she has what she sees as good intentions, and I have no doubt that she believes what she is saying, but this sort of person is incapable of seeing the dangerous side effects of their words. They do not understand that they are contributing a culture where killing is ok.

We have to stand up and let our voices be heard. Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern has to resign.

Tears for A Young Life

March 3, 2008 in GLBT, Philosophy, Politics by export

hatecrime190 thumb Tears for A Young Life I did not post when young Larry King’s life was snuffed out by hate because I was too full of anger and hate at the causes of his murder, and I did not want to add more hate into the world.

I have been blind for tears every time I pray because unholy words from a book that I hold as sacred played a part in the slaying of this young child. Hate is all we need to know of hell.

No matter what you believe about the nature of the universe, a demon, a devil is responsible for the killing of this boy, and I am not talking about other boy who pulled the trigger. I am talking about the demon that roams our psyche that says it is ok to mock, harass, harm, and kill gay people. This devil is a poison in our national blood stream and it must be banished if we are ever going to live up to our national creed, Justice for All.

Thanks to Ellen, I have found a way through my own hate, but I still have pity. I must find a way to make pity into compassion.

See Ellen’s words here.
