How can you say no to these faces?

SPCA volunteers Abby, Karson, Julia, and Cameron (not pictured) want you to donate to help animals this holiday season.

Every year, Macy’s San Francisco gives precious retail advertising space to the orphan animals of the SPCA. Not only do they ask passersby to donate for these poor little guys, they can actually adopt a pet right on the spot! Every animal has been medically screened, vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered. Each animal will come with a 30-day medical assistance plan at the SF/SPCA infirmary, plus a gift bag filled with samples, treats and valuable certificates from sponsor partners of The SF/SPCA and Macy’s.

The window theme this year goes along with Macy’s “Believe” campaign. With the main window showing our favorite guy in red, the other pet windows show letters from children and pets to Santa. These pictures allow you to see some of the cute pets napping their day away in the cozy surroundings as passersby admire their holiday home. Shoppers in the Bay Area can check out the windows from now until January 3rd, 2010.

At www.sfspca.org, you can watch the animal webcam and donate from your pc.  If monetary support is not your cup of tea, they are also asking for volunteers to assist in the event’s success like the girls above .

Macy’s has been a holiday staple in San Francisco’s season for what seems like forever. The buildings spanning two city blocks on Union Square have long been the hub of December activity. Although the SPCA windows seem to be their main focus, their other displays do not disappoint.

For years now I felt someone should make a toaster as the ideal merchandise for Battlestar Galactica.  Finally someone produced a frakkin toaster.  Thankfully it’s not the killer robot kind.

This is a great crafting project a Pillow of Carkoon.  I don’t think I could rest my head upon this one.  I would have dreams of the Sarlacc eating my brains while I sleep.

Life is delicious when a joke can inspire a great idea like Thinkgeek’s April Fools joke of a Tauntaun sleeping bag.  I and many others would love to have this as an actual product though it does not exist yet.  Thankfully because of the high demand they are working on having “…it available in time for the holidays, or at latest, the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back next spring.”  Said Shane Peterman Thinkgeek PR.

The Tauntaun scene was so touching in Empire Strikes Back when Han saves Luke by making a shelter to keep them safe from the elements.  I just imagine the wintery harsh winds of icy Hoth and how warm and snugly it would be to be wrapped up in the Tauntaun sleeping bag.  Come on George Lucas give them the green light winter is on it’s way.

While we wait, what about making this into an awesome crafting project!

OMG I love this!  Star Wars book ends from a great and classic scene when they are in the trash room in episode IV A New Hope.

Big game hunters eat your hearts out…

I could mount this Velociraptor head from Jurassic Park on my wall… imagine the conversation starter it would be.

“Oh! I see you noticed my catch while I was on safari.  Just wait till you hear the story of how we spent 3 days in the jungle hunting each other until I got the upper hand.”  Yea I think it would go something like that.  Of course in order to pull it off properly I would need to get a Predator head and an Aliens head to go next to them.

I am a huge fan of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, so you can only imagine my excitement when I saw this Revan Mighty Muggs for the first time. I had to get it.

Unfortunately, Saks Fifth Avenue has disappointed us yet again.  Their reputation of having the best windows with animated dolls and music are gone.  This is the second year they have done traditional model windows and I won’t even bore you with the details.  I’m not sure why they are copping out.  Last year the excuse was Going Green, but it’s evident that their reputation is declining.

However, I will show you some images I enjoyed.  Here are my top holiday picks for the season:

2. SF Centre (Westfield Mall) Nordstrom.  Yes, they did start with a gorgeous building to begin with.
   
   
3. Neiman Marcus Asian Snow Designs
   
4. Tiffany & Co.  Ice sculpture designs
5. Macy’s Mens side- Interesting fabric snowflakes.  I’m not sure how they made these, but I want one!  You can’t really tell from the picture that these babies are puffed out 3-d.

Every year, Macy’s Union Square in San Francisco gets a visit from Santa and his little animals. These particular animals are homeless cats and dogs from the San Francisco SPCA. 

The window themes this year are the best I’ve seen. Each little fur ball is set in what appears to be the outside courtyard of a home. A miniature Victorian with ivy garland twirled around the balustrade and down the columns provides a cozy scene as you look into the house windows to find a decorated holiday tree. Another window is fitted with a more modern home façade with a mock waterfall in the front. There is also a log cabin style complete with rain boots out front as if someone has just come in from fishing.

Of course, the animals don’t care that they are in cute confines. They just want water, food, a warm place to sleep, and your love. Adoption fees for these critters go to support the San Francisco SPCA. Last year they raised a reported $37,000 and found homes for 277 pets. 

According to the SPCA website at www.sfspca.org, each animal comes with a 30 day gift of pet health insurance, a free dog or cat advice DVD, a leash and collar (for dogs) and discounts on most SF/SPCA training classes.  Adopters also receive a gift bag filled with samples, treats and valuable certificates from sponsor partners of The SF/SPCA and Macy’s.

Animals are on display from store opening to one hour before they close from now until January 1^st.
