Early look at ‘77

June 9, 2009 in Fandom, Movies, Space Opera by Brian Logee

‘77 also know as 5-25-77 is an independent movie about the adventures of young Pat Johnson, a budding filmmaker fighting against the odds to spread the word of the original Star Wars film on its opening day – May 25th, 1977.  Watch the video below.

I’m can’t wait to watch ‘77.  From the trailer it looks like a coming of age tale for SF fans.  I love the geeky references.  For the record the Enterprise’s shields could not withstand a shot from the Deathstar but it could easily out dodge the shot.

When will ‘77 hit theaters?

There is no release date yet but Patrick Read Johnson gives us an idea of what to expect in an interview.

There won’t be any release plan until we make our final domestic deal in November. I know it frustrates a lot of outside observers that we can’t give them a hard release date, but the truth is, it’s really a very freeing thing to be able to make your film, the way you really want it made, without having to live in fear of an impending date you absolutely have to hit. If we’d made this film through a studio and completed it in, you know 9 months or something… there are a number of wonderful things that might never have made it into the film. Though no one wants to see ‘77 in theaters more than me, my fellow filmmakers and I are also keenly aware that making a GOOD independent film as ambitious as our for as little money as we’ve had to spend almost always results in a long gestation process. And frankly, on a film this important to me, I’m really very lucky to have had the luxury of all this time.

For a lucky few ‘77 premiered at the Hamptons International Film Festival where it received great reviews and received the Heineken Red Star Award but it does not have a national nor international release yet.

Star Wars AT-AT Cake

AT-AT-cake-star-wars

That is one amazing looking AT-AT cake.  It’s not entirely edible since the legs and base are wood covered in gum paste but the head and body are edible.  That said I don’t know if any edible material would be strong enough to support the body and especially the head.  The details on this AT-AT cake is amazing!  Great job Jennifer Luxmore of Sin Desserts in Providence, RI.

Hunter Prey teaser trailer

April 27, 2009 in Movies, Sci-Fi, Space Opera by Brian Logee

The teaser is out for Hunter Prey watch it above.  The movie is about a team of special forces commandos who must recapture an escaped alien prisoner after the military transport ship carrying it crashes on a desolate and hostile planet.

I love the look of the commandos… they really give me a Star Wars bounty hunter kind of feel.  This is enhanced with the retro-70’s style that the film is going for.

Sandy Collora directs the independent Sci-Fi film.  She used a more streamlined approach to the movie keeping the budget down.  First she used an 18 day shooting schedule and she used the Red camera system.  The RED camera system which could revolutionize the filming process because it promises to give the same quality but costs as much to buy as it is to rent the camera systems used for movies today.

Star Wars: Clone Intelligence Report on Lok Durd

January 22, 2009 in Space Opera, tv/series by Brian Logee

via Wookieepedia We have received some intelligence on a Neimoidian Separatist General known as Lok Durd.  Like most Separatist’s he’s power-crazed and as crazy as the droids he commands.  We suspect he is also in possession of a new weapon.

The new weapon is an large scale explosive device that will only destroy living matter.  It’s not good news if it is true because that means it will destroy Clone Troopers and Jedi but will leave a field full of operational clankers behind.

Unfortunately we are not sure where he is currently located but he was last spotted on the outer rim near the planet Maridun.

This Fridays Star Wars: Clone Wars Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Star Wars: The Clone Wars will feature the voice of George Takei in episode # 14 Defenders of Peace.  He will voice the villain Lok Durd.

George Takei gives us an idea of what Lok Durd looks like and remarks on the quality of the animation.

“Then when I saw the finished product I couldn’t help but realize it was amazingly well done. He’s just extremely flabby and loose he is. It made me wonder why I do all the sit ups, push ups and other exercises I really do when they think of that kind of character for my voice. I mean when Lok Durd moves, you can see his stomach, arms and legs, all his flesh, just jiggle. The animation is just amazing! Oh, the vanity of an actor!”

Synopsis for Defenders of Peace:

While the Jedi combat a new Separatist weapon, the pacifist Lurmen must decide whether they will lay down to the oppressive Separatists or fight with Anakin, Ahsoka and Jedi General Aayla Secura.

  • Ambush:  A ton of Yoda plus Asajj Ventress need I say more!
  • Rising Malevolence: The Clankers get a new weapon and it doesn’t look good for the Clone army.
  • Shadow of Malevolence:  Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano and Obi-Wan Kenobi lead a mission to find and destroy a massive warship that is under the command of General Grievous.
  • Destroy Malevolence: The trap is sprung and Grievous is in trouble.

I’m glad that they have dropped the initial list price from $19.99 to $13.99.  As for me I subscribed through iTunes Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Star Wars: The Clone Wars and am waiting for the season box release that should be out latter in 2009.
