Dollhouse – 11 Things You Don’t Know About Joss Whedon

December 10, 2009 in tv/series by Brian Logee

Joss Whedon answers 11 questions, watch the video above.  I guess this is a Dollhouse promo thing but I noticed there are no questions about Dollhouse in the list… most curious.

Questions I liked

  • Fears:  This is a great question to ask
  • Favorite Food:  I think he would have gone nuts if he got to try the ones I had at Shore Leave convention last summer.
  • Favorite Movie:  I would have to agree
  • Favorite Actress:
  • Worst Food:  his answer made me laugh so hard

I would love to ask Joss Whedon

  • Are you planning on continuing Dollhouse after season 2?
  • Do you expect it to continue in a serialized video show format or will it go into comic format like Buffy?

What questions would you like to ask Joss Whedon?

“Joss Whedon has mastered the art of melding the newest technology with inspired storytelling, truly exemplifying the spirit of the Vanguard Award,” said David Friendly and Laurence Mark, co-chairs of the PGA Awards.

It’s great that the Producers Guild of America is recognizing Joss Whedon’s achivements.  Creator of great shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog.  I can’t wait to see his next project.

Hopefully from Joss’ great experience with Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog the next project will be another independent project.

The Willow one shot comic issue for Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 Early look: Buffy Comic Willow Issue will be out December 23 2009.  For now there are some panels out and they look great.  I would love a poster of this cover.

Buffy willow comic Early look: Buffy Comic Willow Issue

Joss Whedon is back for this issue which is a  Willow focused issue.  This rocks she is my favorite character.

“All we know is that Willow went on a walkabout following the demise of Sunnydale, and she met a very sultry, extremely powerful serpent lady who seems to be the key to unraveling the mysteries of what Willow is, and will become.” (via News a Rama)

Best: Glee, Vol. One: Road to Sectionals A Must Own

November 20, 2009 in Uncategorized by Brian Logee

Glee is one of the best shows to air this fall.  Like Joss Whedon it too is my biggest addiction.  From the amazing singing, eclectic music covered, tight writing, and deep social themes covered Glee will make you laugh, cry, think and feel edified in the end.  If you haven’t watched it there are some of the more recent episodes streaming on line Here.

Social Themes

This show is able to tackle such deep and complicated social issues like

  • the need and pressures of being accepted
  • teen pregnancy
  • the benefits of diversity and being a social freak
  • self acceptance
  • self actualization
  • being passionate about whatever you do

I love how the show starts out with the deep honest admittance that everyone is a looser.  It was such a shocking statement to hear but once we realize everyone is a looser we are able to move on to do that which you love and not to worry about everyone else.

Singing and Music examples.

Glee, Vol. One: Road to Sectionals is available for preorder and will be out on DVD December 29, 2009.

Joss Whedon Directing An Episode of Glee

November 13, 2009 in Uncategorized by Brian Logee

glee 294x300 Joss Whedon Directing An Episode of GleeJoss Whedon has agreed to direct one of the back nine episodes that Fox just ordered. -EW

This comes as bitter-sweet news since Fox will be canceling Dollhouse.

Sweet

Joss is a big fan of Glee which comes as no big surprise for several reasons.

  • The show rocks!
  • The music is great
  • The messages behind the story is both challenging and edifying

I’m stoked to find Joss is directing an episode. He is brilliant director who also shares in a passion for music. His episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Once More, with Feeling Joss Whedon Directing An Episode of Glee and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog Joss Whedon Directing An Episode of Glee are testaments to his acumen in that field. Personally I hope the episode he directs is the one where Will and Finn find out that they have been lied to about their fatherhood.

Bitter

The bitter part of this news is that it comes out on the back of Fox’s announcement of canceling Dollhouse. I have been silent so far on this subject because I feel a long string of expletives wont solve any thing.

If Fox thinks this move will appease the fans for all of the BS over Dollhouse then they are more foolish then originally believed. There is a coming storm but Fox will find it a quiet one. Fox doesn’t respect Joss, they don’t respect the fans and so I will not support them. They are lucky that Glee is over there it’s the last Fox show I watch. They should thanks their lucky stars that they didn’t cancel Glee like they originally wanted to before it got a chance to air.

On the plus side Joss is free of them once again and I hope that he goes independent with Dollhouse or at least with his next project. I can’t wait for Doctor Horrible 2 and other projects out of Joss Whedon Digital Studio.

Dollhouse Season 2

September 23, 2009 in Featured, Music, tv/series by Eric

dollhouse eliza summer Dollhouse Season 2

Dollhouse season 2 is fast approaching, and we now have quite a bit of detail regarding the events of this season.

Season Overview

Dollhouse will be coming back Friday, Sept. 25 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX for a 13 episode season.  IF the ratings are good enough, Fox has the option to order additional episodes.

2.1 Vows
2.2 Belle Chose
2.3 Instinct
2.4 Belonging

2.5 The Public Eye
2.6 The Left Hand

Kevin Reilly says they have gives Joss Whedon full creative control over the new season (here).  Now we can see the main arc he has planned:

DANIEL PERRIN (Alexis Denisof) is a U.S. senator leading a witch hunt to track down the underground organization. Mysterious, charismatic businessman MARTIN KLAR (Jamie Bamber) is Echo’s new husband. BRADLEY KARRENS (Michael Hogan) comes to the Dollhouse hoping to stop a psychotic family member’s killing spree, while MATTHEW HARDING (Keith Carradine), a nemesis of Dollhouse leader ADELLE DEWITT (Olivia Williams), stirs up trouble.

Sounds interesting, especially considering a Dollhouse high mucketimuck  said through Victor in Epitaph 1 that everyone in government was a client of the Dollhouse or “one of ours.”  They could do a lot of things with that.

Summer Glau

Rumors have circulated for a while about Summer Glau appearing on Dollhouse.  Joss said he wanted to put her in a role we had not seen her in before.

Summer Glau (“Firefly,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) reunites with Joss Whedon when the actress joins the cast of DOLLHOUSE this fall in a recurring role as BENNETT, a Dollhouse employee who shares a past with ECHO (Eliza Dushku).

I cannot wait to see  Summer return to a good series.

Joss Whedon controls the Dollhouse now?

August 11, 2009 in Featured, Headline, tv/series by Eric

Has Fox handed control of Dollhouse to Joss Whedon?

dollhouse logo 300x168 Joss Whedon controls the Dollhouse now?“[The mandate is] to keep doing what he’s doing,” President of entertainment for Fox Broadcasting,, Kevin Reilly, said. “That is really the gift of Joss. Some people can create a good show. Joss was pretty open about those hiccups. I think in the second half of the year, he found the show and started having fun with it. I don’t think he was having a lot of fun early on, but he was fantastic to work with all the way through. The fact that he found that, it will be much smoother sailing this year (Airlock Alpha).”

That’s the story, and I hope it’s true.  Joss knows where he wants to take the series and the few episodes he did his way last year were the best.

I am not sure I buy this.  Fox is a micromanaging network, and I suspect that they are going to find some subtle, passive-aggressive ways to push Joss the way they want him to go.

I have my fingers crossed.  Do you think Joss will get to do Dollhouse his way for season 2?
