Did Darken Rahl fell in love with Kahlan

John the Rogue Demon Hunter posed an interesting question on Project: Shadow.

On the show that is. I think he was initially taken with Kahlan when Giller was torturing Kahlan and she still wouldn’t back down. This may have been why he flinched during Giller’s ministrations. Also, the blood rage was powerful enough to make him run for his life. I think he was intrigued with her to start and this was why her wanted to voluntarily become his queen. I think becoming the mother of his child solidified his feelings. I would like to seen a episode arch in the show where we saw over time Kahlan’s effect on Darken Rahl and maybe seen him starting to change his ways. That is until Kahlan tries to kill his son. At least for episodes should have have been dedicated to the future storyline.

It is an interesting idea.  I said on The Confessed, I didn’t feel Darken Rahl was truly evil, just extremely off the mark on how to best achieve his goals.

Granted, it looks like they have proven me wrong with the season premier for season 2, but I drew heavily on the Darken Rahl’s reaction to Kahlan’s torture as proof of his character.

I don’t want to bring the books in here.  The show has forked significantly from the novels, and I think we need to take Legend of the Seeker as a show inspired by the novels, rather than based on it.

Darken Rahl respects and admires strength.  Rahl saw these qualities in Kahlan, and I think he saw something else: A means to escape the Keeper.

Darken’s infatuation with Kahlan showed him the say to gain the power he wanted.  The Keeper did not rise in the future, why? Because Darken lost the boxes on Orden an gained something he ever had before.  A life of his own.

Kahlan offered Darken a world at peace and security.  All of the threats to him had been removed with Richard’s death.  He didn’t need the Keeper anymore.

Kahlan was Darken’s salvation.

Legend of the Seeker Season 2: Rivals and the Underworld

June 4, 2009 in Featured, Headline, tv/series by Eric

Richard and Kahlan kiss in the water

Richard and Kahlan kiss in the water

Two juicy tidbits of news have dribbled out about Season 2 of Legend of the Seeker:

We’re told there’s going to be a rival for Richard’s affections (La Legende du Sourcier).

We left off with Richard successfully defeating Darken Rahl, but it remains to be seen whether he succeeded long-term. What? Defeating Rahl opened a rift into the underworld, which means Richard must contend with a war waged on the living (Sword of Truth).

Sounds interesting!  I cannot wait to see it!

Legend of the Seeker: Magic of the Confessors

May 12, 2009 in Books, Featured, Headline, tv/series by Megan

Mother ConfessorThe magic I’ve most enjoyed, in both the books and the show, is the magic of the Confessors.

The Strongest Magic of All

Their magic is really the strongest of all, as Zedd said in Identity “Of all the magic in the world none is more powerful than love” and that is exactly what their magic is, love. Their magic was created to use and control love in order to find the truth and keep justice. All they need is one spark of love within a person for their magic to work, and everyone at one time in their life feels love, which allows for the Confessors to be the most powerful force of all the lands.

My favorite line of “Elixir” is when Kahlan explains to the young boy, Jack, about love “Love is a choice we make. If you take away that choice, it’s not really love is it? Someone loving you wanting to be with you because you forced them; Trust me it won’t make you happy”.

Stealing Humanity

The magic of confession takes away everything that makes a person human; they lose every part of their soul and are left with this false love. The magic they have gives the power of love to others, and yet they aren’t able to feel true love for themselves.

The World View of the Confessors

Kahlan white dressI feel like you can’t really examine into the magic of the Confessors unless you look into the Confessors themselves and their own views of the world. The magic that a person has is what really defines that person within the Midlands. To every one of the Midlands these women are not women, they’re Confessors, and while the people respect and follow their rulings there is still that emotional distance between all of them.

It is interesting to see the way that Confessors view relationships and love in relation to their powers. Confessors don’t have friends that aren’t other confessors or wizards for the most part, and Kahlan is no different until Richard shows up in her life. This man that knows nothing of a Confessor’s power is able to change not only Kahlan’s views but actually the whole entire order’s views.

The Confessors believed that true love could never be real for them; they took mates in order to continue the line. That was a key line in the episode “Sacrifice”; Dennee explained how she took Finn as her mate in order to have a baby because their numbers were dwindling. Kahlan believes as well that love just isn’t possible, until Richard came and showed her that love, true love, doesn’t have to be physical. Her own changing views of this are shown when she asks Lara, the Confessor in “Denna”, if she had taken Raph as her lover, not mate. I think it’s a key point that she uses the term lover instead of mate; it’s actually the first reference as “Sacrifice” comes after “Denna” and so it really shows just how much Kahlan has changed from the other Confessors when we finally see her interact with them.

Kahlan’s Understanding and Con Dar

One of the great things about Kahlan’s growth and understanding about relationships is that it’s truly made her a stronger Confessor. The Confessor magic relies so much on the emotions of people that it’s only natural that as the Confessor’s emotions grow so would their magic. She discovered her ability to call forth the Con Dar, not because of some new magic within her, the power was in her all along; it was her feelings for Richard that allowed for this power.

The Con Dar isn’t invoked unless it is for the protection and defense of another person, without her love and fierce need to protect Richard she would never have been able to call upon that power.

The Power to Control

Kahlan 2The Confessor’s magic is also a prime example of how the power to control people, and the belief that magic is infallible, can be so blinding that a person can forget just what is right and wrong. The first real instance of this is with the Confessor Lara in “Denna”. She felt the need to protect her people and save them from the D’haran troops so she confessed the village to remove their fear. Were her intentions honorable? Of course, but her dependence on her magic is the same problem that the village in “Elixir” had.

The same goes for Serena the former Mother Confessor; she used her magic on Zedd to defend the beliefs she had about the male Confessor, she didn’t want to harm their mission, just fulfill her duty as Mother Confessor. She is the perfect example of how it isn’t the power and magic that is good or evil but the way it is used. It isn’t until the episode “Confession” that Kahlan realizes her magic isn’t the great power she thought it was. I thought it was a perfect storyline because of how Kahlan acts within it; here she is the newly named Mother Confessor relying on her magic because that’s what she’s always been taught. If she needed the truth she’d use her magic, that’s what the Confessors were trained to do. Her powers can never be wrong; she has a firm belief in that idea and her whole foundation crumbles when she actually is wrong. It is in this episode that she realizes that the Confessor’s magic isn’t the perfect power that she had always thought it was.

Legend of the Seeker- Going Under

April 18, 2009 in Fandom, Fanfilm, Music, tv/series by Eric

While Richard and Kahlan are post in this video, this is really a Kahlan video.  The Song fits her well and the video cliped to it.

“Going Under” is a perfect analogy for the effect confessing people has on Kahlan.

Sephiroth/Aerith Tribute- “The Mourning Tree”

April 18, 2009 in Fandom, Fanfilm, Video Game by Eric

I found this video by accident while looking for a video of the Leaves’ Eyes song “Mourning Tree” to share on a forum.

This is one of my favorite songs, and I have always been surprised that more videos haven’t been made using it.  I would love to see a Richard/Kahlan video, or a Daniel/Sha’re video.

This one on Sephiroth and Aerith from Final Fantasy VII is an interesting way to frame the story from Advent’s Children.  After all it really is their story isn’t it.

Legend of the Seeker’s Next 5 Episodes

April 15, 2009 in Featured, Headline, tv/series by Eric

The Official Legend of the Seeker site have added 3 new pictures from the final 5 episodes of the season.  There is nudity!  Sorta.

As you can see in these 3 pictures, Richard will apparently catch Kahlan bathing again, but this time they embrace each other.  Dangerous, but fun to look at.

Also, Fantasy.fr is reporting the names of the final 5 episodes of Season 1 of Legend of the Seeker.  Take the names with a grain of salt, they are translated from French into English, so the English Titles may be slightly different:

Mirror (Legend of the Seeker Episode 18) will be released on 25 April 2009.

Cursed (Legend of the Seeker Episode 19) will be released on 2 May 2009.

Sanctuary (Legend of the Seeker Episode 20) will be released on 9 May 2009.

Fever (Legend of the Seeker Episode 21) will be released on 16 May 2009.

Reckoning (Legend of the Seeker Episode 22, “Season Finale”) will be released May 23 (Fantasy.fr)

I assume the reports about a 23 episode season were wrong.

Richard & Kahlan – Wicked Game

March 30, 2009 in Fandom, Fanfilm, Music, tv/series by Eric

They used the HIM version of Wicked Game, but it matches the video of Richard and Kahlan.

In a lot of ways, this is a perfect way to think watch Richard and Kahlan as they play fates Wicked Game of unrequited love.

Note to the vidders out there:  I would love to see a Mistress Denna video to the original Chris Isaac song, or maybe Venus in Furs.  I would love to see that.

I have never heard this song before, but I think I might have to buy it, watching Richard and Kahlan and thinking about them as the guardian angel does something for me.

The love story between Richard and Kahlan is one of the most touching on television today.  I am glad to see how it is effecting other people.

Richard and Kahlan: I’d Give Up Forever…

March 26, 2009 in Fandom, Fanfilm, Music, tv/series by Eric

I hate this song, but I love Legend of the Seeker.

This music video is a fantasy com true, using clips of Richard and Kahlan expressing their love for each other and repurposing clips from Revenant so we can see the two of them finally together.

This is an amazing video, and it makes me want to give my sweetie a big hug and kiss.  Well done.
