Kick-Ass Official Teaser Trailer

December 21, 2009 in Movies by Brian Logee

Kick-Ass is an interesting looking movie.  I get a Mystery Men Kick Ass Official Teaser Trailer kind of vibe from it which is not the best movie but it is very entertaining.  Kick-Ass is in theaters April 16th 2010.  Watch the trailer above.

Plot:  KICK-ASS tells the story of average teenager comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero… Kick-Ass.  He assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.

His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl and her father, Big Daddy.

Will Aliens Be the New Vampires?

With the success of recent films like the Transformers movies and District 9 (and to a lesser extent, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which is the 26th highest grossing film worldwide), it seems like Hollywood is going alien crazy, giving the green light and putting a lot of alien-based stories in development — more than ever before. In a couple years, will aliens be the new vampires?  -(via /Film)

Will Aliens be the New Vampires?

No, the rise in interest in alien movies is just part of the Hollywood system.  The very same system that will also decide people aren’t interested in Aliens as much as Vampire’s.

Hollywood has a past track record for starting many projects to hedge their bet on what the next big fad will be.  Many of these projects get dumped or shelved after the sales numbers come in.

Hollywood Sign

Image via Wikipedia

The sales numbers are not so good for alien movies.  Transformers and Indiana Jones are franchises in their own right and won’t be thought of by the studios as alien movies.

There are also a lot of superhero movie projects in the works.  Could the superhero movie be the next thing?  With such a diverse story and setting potential there is a lot more that could be explored in this area on the big screen.

Vampire movies are still bringing in a lot for the studios.  Do you think they will continue doing more of them?  I hope not, it pains me to say that but with so many bad ones out there I would like for it to be given a rest.

What would you like to see as the next movie phase?

Smallville’s Temptation with Michael Shanks

October 21, 2009 in tv/series by Brian Logee

The reborn Carter Hall in the new Hawkman seri...
Image via Wikipedia

Smallville has really stepped up it’s attempts this year to try and get me to watch.  Adding Michael Shanks to the show is a good step in the right direction but their online player is still a big strike against all of their shows.

To date I haven’t given in to watching Smallville because it mainly featured Superman who is alright yet low on my top DC superhero list.  This season brings in the promise of the Justice Society which adds cool superheros like Hawkman into the mix.

On top of that though they cast Michael Shanks to play as Hawkman!!!  I really liked Shanks performance as Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1 and I look forward to seeing his guest appearance in Sanctuary this season.

Other Justice Society members to appear will be Doctor Fate (Brent Stait) and Stargirl (Courtney Whitmore).

Normally this would be more then enough to get me to check out Smallville again but the WB left a hurdle in the way working against themselves.

WB, get your act together if you want me to watch your shows.  Your poor player makes me hate anything streaming on it.  I have to really want to watch a show to be willing to put up with annoying players.  So much that even though I love Star Wars their annoying player has kept me from really watching and talking about their show this year.

WB, you started to work with Hulu why did you stop half way through?  Their player is enjoyable, works, and gets good add revenues.  You should have at least fixed up your player before giving me the bait and switch.

Hopefully by January the WB can fix their obsticale to enjoying their shows.  That is when the episode “Society” will air.

Identity Crisis

51GEtV5LhLL. SL160 After Watchmen Whats Next? Identity Crisis! If you enjoyed Watchmen, I would recomend Identity Crisis:

When the spouse of a JLA [Justice League of America] member is brutally murdered, the entire super-hero community searches for the killer, fearing their own loved ones may be the next targets! But before the mystery is fully solved, a number of long-buried secrets rise to the surface, threatening to tear apart and divide the heroes before they can bring the mysterious killer to justice (DC Comics).

I loved this graphic novel.  The superhero murder mystery is very well written.  It would make a great movie to follow the Watchmen.

Meanwhile, The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the filmmakers have already started scouting locations and interviewing key crew members in Sydney Australia’s NSW Fox Studios (/Film).

Well the rumors keep coming up, maybe this time it will amount to something.  Since Green Lantern is my favorite Superhero, I can only hope they get the movie right.

Hey Warner Bros, can we get a green light already?
