Glee just gets better and better.  In Wheels the students are challenged to explore what it is like to live with a disability.  They start with Artie and what it is like to be in a wheel chair and then they sneak in some bigger questions and points.  Imagine what Sue might have to say about the subject.

I really have to give them credit for how they handled people with down syndrome.  Having a niece with down syndrom I tend to get defensive and protective whenever the subject gets brought.  They did such a good job I was brought almost to tears, kudos!

Likes

  • I love how they approached and explored the subject of people with disabilities
  • Artie’s singing dancing with myself is brilliant!
  • The interaction between Artie and Tina
  • the choreography with the wheel chair just gets better and more elaborate
  • the diva off between Rachel and Kurt
  • seeing some examples of the difficulties of being in a wheel chair
  • I was very impressed with how they handled down syndrom in this episode almost brought me to tears.
  • Kurts dad
  • The guest appearance by Vork from the Guild!!!
  • The secret recipe left me laughing.

Dislikes

  • Nothing it is a great episode

DVD Releases: October 6, 2009

October 6, 2009 in Movies, tv/series by Brian Logee

Out this week we have three DVDs to feature:  The Guild: Seasons 1 & 2, Year One, and Red Dwarf: Back to Earth.

  • The Guild: Seasons 1 & 2 DVD Releases: October 6, 2009: The Guild is hilarious, geeky, fun! Fans of RPG’s and MMORPG’s will love this show. I first got into it because Felicia Day rules and am not let down. The guilds actual release was on September 29th but I did not want to miss this one. A great example of an independent production The Guild is a must own.  Watch a music video “Date My Avatar” from the Guild to get an idea of how funny this show is.

  • Year One DVD Releases: October 6, 2009: Banished from their primitive village after the tribe elders deem them too lazy, Zed and Oh embark upon an adventure-filled journey through the ancient world.  Being a Jack Black movie sparked my interest in Year One.  The trailers looked funny and now I can rent it.  If you have watched Year One let me know what you think about it.

  • Red Dwarf: Back to Earth DVD Releases: October 6, 2009: I love Red Dwarf. I started watching it on PBS as a child and have really enjoyed watching it now on DVD.  For those just getting into Red Dwarf you should really start back at the beginning since the impact and probably several jokes will be lost like Lister getting to finally go back to earth to get his Island home on Fiji.  I haven’t watched Back to Earth but eagerly await to rent it.

The Guild: Expansion Time

September 4, 2009 in tv/series by Eric

The Guild season 3 is here!  The show is as good as always, but the distribution is not so good.

Distribution Issues

The Guild is now distributed via the Xbox Live store and MSN Video site.  They did this for season 2 also.

My problem with both means is that they do not offer the ability to subscribe to the series, so fans have to check back often to see if a new episode is out.  I wish the process was easier.  Hopefully, Microsoft is working on this problem.

Expansion Time

This is a great episode!  It sets up a rivalry between our favorite Guild and a group of evil line cutters.  Since I haven’t seen a lot of publicity about it, and the surprise made me jump out of my chair shouting, “Yes!”  So I will not spoil it for you.  Let me just say, I cannot wait to see the rest of the season.

If you need to catch up with the series, you can watch seasons 1 and 2 at Watch the Guild.com.

Would you pay for a Boxee app?

August 26, 2009 in Decabling, tv/series by Eric

Image representing Boxee as depicted in CrunchBase
Image via CrunchBase

[Avner] Ronen says that the company still has yet to collect any revenue for use of its media center software, but that it’s working on a way to allow content owners to charge for the Boxee Apps that they create (Contentinople).

This begs the question:  Would you pay for a Boxee App?  I might but there are a few ground rules that would have to be established:

Rules for Paid Apps

  1. Paid App channels would have to be commercial free.
  2. Paid App channels must have a free version to test the content.
  3. Apps must be cheap!  The more they cost, the fewer people will pay.
  4. Apps should be available for networks and individual shows.

Reasons I would pay for an app

  • Premium Channels: HBO and Showtime are top of my list.
  • Foreign Content: BBC iPlayer is top on my list, but I have a soft spot for Chinese and Indian TV.
  • Supporting Indie Media:  I would pay to support the Guild, Legend of Neil and other shows, but I would expect extras.

How I hope this works

I have hoped for a long time that Apple would open its platform to allow more options.  So far they haven’t.  I think Media should have a tiered support system:

  1. Free: Ad supported, let me check it out
  2. Tiny Fee: Watch commercial Free
  3. Small Fee:  Own outright (The content is downloaded to my device)
  4. Modest Fee: Own outright with special features

I want to be able to watch any show and upgrade my content as I see fit.

Did I miss anything?

What would make you want to pay for a Boxee App?  What rules do you have?  What model would you like to see?

The Guild is coming to DVD!

April 24, 2009 in tv/series by Brian Logee

I love this online series and now I can get season one and two on DVD.  Season 2 DVD will have a lot of extras including commentary tracks, gag reels and extra bonus videos.  My favorite feature will be a “Play All” option without credits… a marathon mode, sweet.

The Guild is a must own for any fan of RPG’s either table top or especially MMORPG.  There are ton’s of geeky references as we get to follow both the online lives and IRL lives of the guild members.  Best representation of an IRL boss battle Ever!
