January 27, 2009 in Movies, Superhero by Brian Logee

Hulk_VsHulk Vs. is now out on DVD and I can’t wait to see it!  This project is from the same group that brought us Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow read my full review here.

Watch the Trailer Here!

The footage looks really good and I can’t wait to see both of the smashing battles.

An update on my posts Exploring: Hulk vs Wolverine 2009 Movie and Exploring HULK VS THOR they are both on the Hulk Vs. DVD and not released as two separate DVD’s

  • Hulk Vs. Thor:  A gods verses monster movie.  Loki looking for a way to bring defeat to his step brother teleports the only monster in the nine realms capable of this feat, The Incredible Hulk from Midgard.  The Hulk gets transported to Asgard which confuses and as expected angers him leaving Thor to try and stop him in an epic battle.
  • Hulk Vs. Wolverine:  The Hulk is loose rampaging through the Canadian Wilderness.  To stop him Canadian’s Department H sends out Wolverine their elite agent.  This is the wild Wolverine before the X-Men days and without some of the tempering from Professor Xavier.  The clash results in a fierce battle.  Dead Pool also makes an appearance and complicates matters even more for Wolverine.

Speculative Fiction Movies Dominate top 25

December 18, 2008 in Movies by Brian Logee

Get your copy of The Dark Knight on DVD and help support the project IMDB presented their top 25 searched for films of 2008.  They wanted to go for a ranking that was not based on box-office performance or critical assessments.  I was pleasantly surprised to see how many speculative fiction movies were on the list.

  1. The Dark Knight (2008)
  2. Twilight (2008)
  3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
  4. TR2N (2011) Tron 2, I still don’t really care for the name
  5. The Expendables (2010)
  6. Iron Man (2008)
  7. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
  8. No Country for Old Men (2007)
  9. Juno (2007)
  10. Transformers (2007)
  11. The Incredible Hulk (2008)
  12. There Will Be Blood (2007)
  13. Sex and the City (2008)

  22. Star Trek (2009) This is J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek
  23. The Godfather (1972)
  24. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
  25. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

SF moves took up 60% of the chart with only 1/3 of those movies being ones that have not been released yet.

I find these search reports to be fascinating like a snap shot of what is on peoples minds and what they are curious about.

Not Another Reboot Movie Punishment

December 12, 2008 in Comics, Fandom, Movies by Wulfgang Baker

In recent years we’ve seen franchise reboot after franchise reboot. The Hulk, Batman, Star Trek, The Punisher just to name a few. And now we have yet another reboot of…The Punisher? In word handed down via interview for iFMagazine with director Lexi Alexander, the movie is

More of a reboot like THE INCREDIBLE HULK, than a direct sequel to the 2004 reboot that starred Thomas Jane, PUNISHER: WAR ZONE stars Ray Stevenson (ROME) as Frank Castle, a one-man avenging force out to take down all organized crime in retribution for the death of his family many years ago.

Now I have nothing nothing against reboots if they are properly done, but it seems Hollywood has gotten lazy. It was only four years ago that the last reboot of The Punisher franchise was done, and I loved it. Now they’re doing it again and saying they’ll do the same story even better. No longer are they willing to spend the money for original ideas they are settling for rebooting reboots. We need fresh ideas, fresh creative works, new blood. This trend is unacceptable. Make Hollywood take notice, that we are a force to be reckoned with and will not be placated with the same stories over and over and over again. If you see a fan film support it, if you like an indie film buy it, if they have merchandise wear it.

The Incredible Hulk Smashes onto DVD

October 17, 2008 in Movies by Brian Logee

hulk The Incredible Hulk Smashes onto DVD Smashing into our living rooms on DVD, October 21 is The Incredible Hulk.  A must own movie!

There are some problems with the story line and maintaining the immaculate reality of the experience but overall they kept true to the spirit of the Hulk. I really enjoyed this version of the Hulk even though it had it’s flaws it got a lot right.  You can read my full review in Exploring: The Incredible Hulk.

The Incredible Hulk is a tale about Bruce Banner the Geneticist and his quest for a cure for a condition that turns him into a raging monster known as the Hulk. All the while the military is hunting down Bruce Banner so that they can learn how to control the Hulk and use Bruce’s research to create super soldiers. In the end they only create an even more deadly monster known as The Abomination.

Exploring: Hulk vs Wolverine 2009 Movie

September 18, 2008 in Comics, Movies by Brian Logee

Hulk_vs_Wolverine Have you ever wondered who would win in a fight between The Incredible Hulk and Wolverine?  What about watching it on the screen in front of you.  On January 2009 Lionsgate and Marvel Animation have teamed up to bring us a direct to DVD animated movie Hulk vs Wolverine.  Watch the Trailer Here!

Ultimate-wolverine-vs-hulkFor those of us who already know how that match unfolded because we read Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk Marvel comic miniseries we may still be surprised.  They have changed the story some from that epic comic.

The Hulk is loose rampaging through the Canadian Wilderness.  To stop him Canadian’s Department H sends out Wolverine their elite agent.  This is the wild Wolverine before the X-Men days and without some of the tempering from Professor Xavier.  The clash results in a fierce battle.  We also know that Dead Pool will make an appearance.

I’m excited to hear how the animators are pleased with this project.  They were able to take off the gloves and not have to worry about censoring themselves.  Since this is a direct to DVD project and not for TV they can unleash Hulk, Wolverine and Dead Pool allowing them to act as they should.  How would you decide who would win in a fight between The Incredible Hulk and Wolverine?

The Avengers Program Who Will Make The Cut

June 25, 2008 in Movies by Brian Logee

Get your copy of The Avengers animated movie here The rumblings of a special team being put together has received some new light recently.  With mixed results from the super soldier program Marvel sheds some more light on their Avenger project.  They really proved their capabilities to handle this project with Iron Man and The Hulk.  So now we are left wondering who will be in the avenger movie?

The lineup has changed some as they are working on the individual film but Favreau tells us that “The ones Marvel is talking about now are Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man and Iron Man.”

He left out Nick Fury, I hope it is only a slip up because Samuel Jackson was awesome as Nick Fury in the cut scene after the credits in Iron Man.  He didn’t get to show up in Hulk other than in name.  Then again I don’t expect him to have his own movie but I hope to see him have some cameo roles in the future films.

Iron Man was in theaters in May

Hulk just came out in theaters

Thor is scheduled for June 4 2010

Ant-Man doesn’t have a time set yet for the film but he could be placed into the Iron Man 2 film scheduled for April 30 2010.

The First Avenger: Captain America: May 6 2011

It’s all still a ways off so we will have to see what changes between now and then.  One of my concerns is how much will the Avengers movie cost if they have a full cast of headlining actors & actresses?  This could be the limiting factor on any Avenger movie where they will have to do something either getting them to share more of the cut of the film or to have a smaller number of superheros in any given film.  I found it interesting when Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ president of production, put forth the idea of “heroes can cross into each other’s adventures and occasionally team up if there’s a foe too great for any one of them to handle.”  This could be a way to have Avengers films with out having to have more then a few headliners in any one film and to maintain a sense of setting consistency.

I applaud Marvel Studios for taking on such a large project in a fan friendly manner and for not trying to cut corners.  I do not envy them for having to make some very hard choices regarding how to fit in a ton of superheros into an avenger film which is what I would love to see yet staying within budget for talent costs and to have enough money left over to make sure that the effects look great.  Good luck, and God speed, I eagerly await the next project.
