Kevin Grevioux’s I, Frankenstein a Darkstorm Studios graphic novel will be made into a movie. Production will begin in July of 2010 and Patrick Tatopoulos production designer from Underworld is attached to direct.
They described the movie as:
I, FRANKENSTEIN is a contemporary fantasy thriller in which the original monster of Victor Frankenstein stands between the human race and an uprising of supernatural creatures determined to overthrow the world.
This comes across to me as another monster turned savior tale like Hellboy. It does not make it a bad sounding or good sounding movie. What are the connections to Frankenstein and the mythical implications brought forth in the original tale?
Is I, Frankenstein just associated to it’s name sake as a patchwork man that Victor puts together to help save us? Should we expect Frankenstein to ponder it’s existence and the reasoning behind why it was created?
That aside, I’m excited about the visual promise that is given to us with Patrick Tatopoulous involvement in the project. He has demonstrated success in translating the gothic aesthetic in movies with his work on Underworld and gives me hope that the visuals will be awesome.
The rumors have stirred about a fourth Underworld film. John Hlavin a writer for the Shield is tapped to write the next movie. I have no strong feelings one way or the other about Halvin. The question is, What Would Underworld Four Be About?
If Underworld four takes place before the events in the first two movies then I would love to see Selene’s embrace story. We could see the height of the Lycan war as they are hunted by Vicktor and the supposed defeat of Lucian. This would mean more Bill Nighy as Vicktor and Kate Beckinsale as Selene, a huge plus for me.
Some are saying that Kate might not return, sad if true but then I would like to see a story taking place after Underworld: Evolution. The remaining Lycan’s and Vampires have to work together to protect themselves against hunters. The hunters could either be church backed or a secret government division either would be sufficiently threatened by vampires and werewolves. The hunting could be due to the attention brought about from the war in Underworld 1 and Underworld 2 resulting in more people finding out about the existence of and having evidence for the existence of both vampires and werewolves.
What would you like the fourth Underworld to be about?
I love how the entire video is like a meta contemplation by Selene about the days to come in the war with the Lycans and the causes behind the conflict that started the war in the first place.
The opening was nice. I particularly liked the use of the text “Underworld” to help give context for those not familiar with the movies.
I really enjoyed that he features the love story that underpins the conflict both in the past and what fuels the present conflict.
Featuring Vincent is also a nice touch since he is the antagonist throughout.
Overall what a great job and a beautiful homage to the Underworld story and Nightwish.

The new Underworld movie, now in development as a 3D release, could be the kick off for a new story arc centered around fan favorite Selene, the female vampire Death Dealer who had been an elite soldier in a centuries-long war between clans of vampires and werewolves (SCI FI Wire.).
I know I am not the only fan of the Underworld series, but there are times I feel like it. I started jumping up and down in my chair when I read the news!
I only have one concern about this new flick, if they recast Selene… I am not sure I will be able to watch it.
Holpefully, they will get the original cast back for this movie, and carry the mythos forward.
What do you think about this? If Kate Becksinsale doesn’t return, will you watch this movie in Jan 2011?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: I loved this show growing up. The camp, one liners, and karate fighting turtles. For the 7th season and in honor of their 25 year celebration they split it up into 4 slices of pizza, each slice representing one of the four turtles.
